One thing that still stands out about this one is that going in we had just done a few backpacking trips in the smoky mountains. After hauling those packs up the mountains we figured hiking this relatively flat terrain was going to be a breeze. We were sorely mistaken, the ground was soft or straight up muck in a lot of places. Think running on the beach.

We headed north out of Oasis Ranger station and trudged along about five or six miles before picking a spot amidst the pine trees to set up our hammocks for the night. We only camped for the one night then backpacked the following morning. Nothing too spectacular to see on this stretch but it was nice to get out there and camp for an evening.
